Thank you for putting in an image of the build so far EG. Obviously you are a proper guitar builder because you are making it from scratch, whereas I am basically just going to be assembling from parts (for me that's ambitious enough

And of course it is even harder if you are selling a no-name partscaster I agree.
I hope you and I both get a keepers though, yours looks to be coming along nicely, and please post some more pics when you finish, cheers!

I know some folks who found great playing and feeling Squiers and upgraded to the hardware and pickups of their choice and they were still very econimical projects.

Cheers kromezone - I am starting to firm up my mental list of parts now, and it looks like a Wilkinson bridge is on there.

I built my "Frankenstein Tele" with a great all Rosewood neck from Warmouth, A great "Joe Barden" neck Pickup and a host of used Parts from Ebay. It has a great jazz tone and is real easy to play (good setup) I use it primarily as a backup for gigs where I would prefer not to use my archtop. I think my total cost (not counting my labor) was close to $650.00.

partscasters are where its at. i have a Nash, V boatneck, lollar 52s...sounds great for pretty much anything i throw at it. the only thing i wish is that i didnt have to take the neck off to adjust the action. i would recommend getting a fatty neck though, but with the truss rod hole on the headstock...

Already been there, cheers tonedeaf - and they do lovely stuff, plus a very nice site to use and ponder what you want. Have decided that the cost plus import duty and VAT will put things too high for me though, so going with UK sourced parts in the end, plus I think it's good for me to support a UK company really.

Will probably go for something else to start with at least, but I don't rule out upgrading to something like the Barden at a later stage. A lot of guitar for the money you spent by the sounds of it though.

Having to take the neck off to adjust the truss must be a bit of a pain when I think about it, so I'm glad you have made the point. Your guitar sound terrific though, hope mine will be as good, cheers!

He just completed it, but I haven't picked it up yet. Very curious which Barden pickup you put in.

Well, as I said above, I can't quite stretch to Barden pickups initially, so will be trying a different setup. I can say I'm going ahead with the build - for UK members, I can recommend Guitarbuild.co.uk who are going to make a body to my specs in swamp ash. They get full marks from me for helpfulness, and caring about getting all the details just right. I'm going for a pickup layout similar to the Nashville Tele, with a middle strat pickup, but without a pickguard, and internal channels for the pickup wires. I'm using small mounting rings to mount the pickups to the body. Pickups will probably be a Tonerider Hot Classics set, plus a suitable strat pickup for the middle. The control system will allow all 7 possible pickup combinations (the combined neck/middle, and neck/bridge combinations will be humbucking).

Meggy,
Looks like our signals got crossed. I saw that Wizard had responded to you on the 9th saying he had a Joe Barden pickup in his tele. So I was posting the message asking him which Barden pickup he had in. I did see from your previous that the Barden's weren't in your plans right now.
Looks like you've already got a great plan for getting a very nice tele built.

My mistake - looking again I can clearly see you addressed your previous post to wiz. Good luck with those Bardens in your guitar though, should be quite an axe!
