Stackabones, my very first encounter with this particular set was in 1978 ... i saw it (and played for awhile) on a namesake guitar. There were two guys from my hometown who went to Brussels Fair to buy guitars: one of the guitars was the Johnny Smith model by Gibson - a gold medalist item at the fair. The other one was L5, which, in comparison to the previous, appeared (at least to me) to be rather unremarkable instrument. During the past ten odd years I am using the flat wound sixth string (.054) in combination with D’Addarios extra light (.009) chrome or half-round sets - then I discard the first string. There were two main reasons for choosing this configuration: at the turn of the last century, I purchased a Yamaha AEX 1500 jazz-box and I discarded the pick altogether ... in favor of a thumb. I regret that I am not the best (not even fair enough) example how inspiring and interesting this string setup can be.

That's a beautiful arrangement Stack. I can tell it's a flat top but it's got a great sound.
