I had my Borys refinished to Vinny specs. Now it makes the finish on a Rolls Royce jealous.

Lovely! But, as a collectible, how much value did it lose?
-
WHo did the work nice.

I consider it to be an upgrade not a decrease in value compared to how it looked new.

Wow - that’s gorgeous! It looks like you left the tailpiece as it was, rather than bling it up. I agree with this completely. It’s the right look for a Borys.
Bill Wurtzel is playing a similar Borys in this week’s Vignola Jazz Night. Even through an iPad, it has a bigger, deeper tone than PG’s and FV’s guitars.
Enjoy it!

I think a Borys is a great jazz guitar but I am not into this VOS / Murphy Lab nonsense.
When I buy new I want it to look new too.
I don’t think anyone would buy a new Murphy Lab car all scratched up with dings.

It’s the logical sequel to the evolution of our amplifiers. For decades, we spent more and more money to get more power at lower distortion. Once the power was high and the distortion low, we started spending even more money for less power and more distortion.
The same thing happened to automotive finishes. The hot ticket on high end cars is now “suede”, the look of a car finished in dull primer.
I keep repeating the wisdom of H L Mencken: you can’t go broke underestimating the taste or intelligence of the American public.
