Followed the thread here about this guitar awhile back and kept it in mind, There’s a nice used one FS here but pickup only and I couldn’t make it work. This brand new one (birthday 2/27/26) appeared on reverb from Haggerty’s very far away in ND. Lovely owner incredibly responsive. Lowered the price by a nice amount and when his tech was setting it up with 11 flats at my request noticed a tiny blemish just above the nut. He sent a pic and offered to take off another $100 or let me opt out, I was already in! And he gives 14 days to return. I recently sold a lovely Soloway Goosling and the fact Jim is intrigued with the model is a plus. It’s a Pomonaburst which I fell in love with. I’m a sucker for red heads.

I'm a big fan of the ER4. Retail is too high for me, but I'm keeping an eye out for a used one. That one is beautiful, enjoy!

I was looking at used from $1700-1800 plus shipping. This new one was $2500 including the $100 off for a tiny blemish and free shipping.

Thanks Rob, will do. I just realized that this guitar has traditional fret marker inlays rather than the edge wrap around style I have seen on the ER4. Must say I prefer the look of these.

My ER-4 -- built ca. 2013, I've had it since 2018.
I don't usually have keepers but it's a keeper.
Enjoy yours!

The seller was having trouble arranging a pick up cause he’s very busy. He told me he was pulling it off and selling it on consignment so maybe it will appear again.Last edited by Woodstove; 06-03-2026 at 01:19 PM.

Great guitars, but I think the ER4 needs a heavier longer tailpiece.
-
It’s something I’ll be keeping my eyes on. I have read about cracking problems and a heavier, ?metal tailpiece might balance it better from what Ive read.

Won’t have it for a week, (should have looked into 2 day to protect it) and will report back. Looking for it to be my living room practice guitar, acoustic and electric, while doing double duty as a piece of art.

Probably in terms of fretting but much lighter!

Nice to read as I’m edging my way through traffic out of NYC home to Ma. (Wife is driving) When Im not playing it for guests it will still entertain them.

It does have a hinged tailpiece, but there’s no sign of loosening. Since the original tailpiece on my ‘97 Ibanez AF207 split apart through the strip that holds the top part to the hinge, I’m more sensitive to this issue. Steve Holst made me a beautiful new TP for it. Now I’m considering asking him to make me one for the El Rey.
Enjoy yours, ‘stove - it’s a wonderful guitar.

Do these tend to be top heavy?
The specs are pretty cool. 2¼" depth fully hollow, 22 frets, and 16" body. I was interested in the t146 for a minute, but kind of prefer the (neck) pickup to be a little bit closer to the bridge (like a 175 or 335).

Yes, but ok when sitting with a good strap and your arm on the lower bout.

Excellent note separation. I love lollar low wind imperials and that is a big factor I'm sure but it's in the acoustic tone as well. The resonance through those holes is a bit like having an echo chamber! While I have been using flat wounds on all my guitars I have BeBop 11's on to emphasize the acoustic dynamic range. The neck is very comfortable and access to 16 frets before the body makes this a very different playing experience than my other arch tops. And of course this relates to it's being top heavy but like Guy the way I hold the guitar sitting and standing it is not causing problems. Maybe the heavier bridge is helping a bit. An amazing instrument, major kudos to Eastman.
