Hi Guys,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a NGD. It’s mainly because I haven’t bought any new guitars in a while. Also, life has taken a few twists and turns but I’m dealin..
I bought this guitar from our beloved Vinny. I am so glad I did. It came to me several months ago and frankly, it’s become my daily driver. It’s small size makes it a perfect guitar for me at this point. It doesn’t bother my shoulder like my bigger Gibson L5 and GJS, so I can play play it for hours at a time. It’s brought back the joy of playing. But I’m not gonna lie, whenever I pick up my L5 or the GJS, it’s a night and day difference. God (with the help of Ibanez) made these guitars to remind us that the bigger Gibson archtops are still king.
But really, this guitar plays itself. Vinny had it setup professionally to take “feeler gauge action” as my bro puts it.. it’s practically brand new. The Natural is more of a Caramel finish. The gold is perfect and it has my all time favorite tuners, the Ibanez GOTOH GB10 tuners. The neck pickup is sweet, warm and powerful. The bridge pickup is basically a decoration, I wish it wasn’t even on the guitar. Aside from its diminutive size, what sets this guitar apart from most - is the neck. It’s the most comfortable neck I’ve played. Not too thin. But it’s the upper fret access - that really puts this neck in another league. It’s really incredible. The guitar is well built and extremely stable. Truss rod adjustment was not necessary after the winter. Everything stayed perfect.
Here’s a video recorded with the guitar. I had a bit of clipping so I used the normalize sound function, which suppressed the clipping but changed the tone a little, but it’s ok.
I hope you like the the video.
Man, this is a great guitar. Thank you brother Vinny.

Congrats on the new guitar. Sounding great!!!

Love the GB10! It's the second jazz-guitar I've had (first was the Ibanez GP20) ...sweet memories!
Enjoy!
-
Great video and awesome playing my Brother !
-
Congrats to my pals JD and Vinny ( three of my guitars came to me from those cats) on a win-win deal.
JD, may this guitar inspire your playing for many years to come. And may your videos continue to inspire the rest of us!

Awesome playing Bro !

Congrats. These have become among my favorite Guitars! I am extremely fussy about how a guitar plays, and I have owned far too many guitars for one man. Of all the guitars I've owned the GBs are the only ones that need no fret work. Comfy to play and I personally like the sound quite a bit. Video sounds great enjoy!

Thank you very much!

Thank you bro. I fixed the sound issue I had with the original. I still don’t know what caused but the new video certainly sounds better!

Hey, thank you buddy. I’ve had 3 of these and they are all consistently outstanding instruments. The fit and finish are really second to none. They take pride and it shows in the workmanship. In fact, I can’t think of ANYTHING made in Japan that is not good.

Joe-it's so nice to hear you playing on the forum again. I have sorely missed your presence and I think I have become a bit crabby and curmudgeonly without you around to keep me behaving!
So glad you and Vinny worked out this deal and that the you and the guitar both have the instrument and musician you each deserve!
-
Hey, Joe, where're you going with that guitar in your hand...?
There has definitely been something missing from this forum for a while, and now it has a name: Joe DeNisco!
Welcome back, my friend. Now all is well with the world!

Congrats on the new guitar, she sounds great!

Good sound and nice playing!

Wow! Thank you Lawson. I am so happy you feel that way about me.

Lawson, if you ever get a chance, you must try one of these GB’s. For some reason they make you feel like Superman when you play one. They have multiple purposes not many archtop guitars have. They are somewhat feedback resistant. They are amazingly durable. And they play and sound like absolute top flight instruments. These GB’s make me play better. And if you have shoulder issues, they cure them.
Thank you Lawson. Much respect and love to you bro.

Robster, no, no, no.. All is well in the world because YOU have succeeded in your comeback!! I sent you a love note last night on YouTube. My wife and I (along with 24,000 other adoring fans) watched your video and we were both mesmerized by the sweetness, style and grace of your playing, especially considering all you’ve been through. I told my wife about the fantasy I had years ago, where I was at a party in a castle somewhere in the United Kingdom and you pull up in an Aston Martin, all dashing and stuff (and yes of course, everything was black and white).

Thank you kindly! I aim to improve the sound in the future. I am using my iPhones as cameras and the BlackMagic control software does not work on a PC, so I can’t use my Boss GT_100 anymore. So I need to figure out how to use this RIFF gadget a little better. It’s hard enough to learn the songs and keep nerves under control while playing them. Learning new gadgets is the last challenge I need!

Joe, you are one of the best reasons to visit this site, always gracious, supremely talented and supportive of others. I know the cast of characters has shifted somewhat, but I think you have had a mellowing effect on the remaining unruly youngsters…. Don’t stay away too long.
AND… glad to see confirmation of my love for MY GB10. Fantastic neck, solid, stable, precise piece of kit! Never leaving, this one

All of the above, for sure. But I’m also lovin’ how you brought H&S to life! I’ve never thought to play it on a gig, and I’ve never heard anybody else do so. Pure genius - I’ll shamelessly steal that one.
Best regards -
David

I for one miss the hell outa that dude! And I’ve never even met him. But we talked on the phone a few times. He’s truly funny as hell! I couldn’t be happier he’s dropped the weight.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. JGF will always have a warm place in my heart. This forum and its members have made my love for this hobby of ours, stronger and more meaningful. Thank you all!
Love for the GB10, confirmed! I have 2 guitars that are tributes to my hero’s. And Gibson, I beg you.. make it a third with a thin line single pickup 175 with Joe Passes name on it!
