If you want to see full use of Blu-Tack, take a look at Whit Smith's setup. He uses about a pound of it to hold everything on his Gibson. I've seen no need for that much, a little goes a long way and provides sufficient adhesion for my needs. Like Guy said, just put some on the bottom of the pickup and press it into place. I've had it on some of my guitars for years, with no visible damage to the finish at all. It can take a little effort to get it all off if you remove the pickup, but it's just a case of scraping it away with your thumbnail. Dabbing at it with a ball of putty also works. Whit had vestiges of it on one of his guitars for months at least, he just didn't seem to want to be bothered with neatness.

Or maybe I'm thinking of someone else who's got a new 18" archtop.
Yea.. not me. This Yunzhi is about 15 years old. It's always been a pain. End block was a bit too thick for an endpin jack so I had to fabricate a special part. Had to level the frets and address finish swirls. And the fit of the humbucker wasn't quite right. And it has always had tuning stability problems even with a thick maple neck. And yet.. of all my Wu's, Yunzhi's, and Gibson archtops it's one of the best sounding and probably the most played. That and it's pretty...

Well, it’s pretty and that’s the most important thing.

    Here's my Mr Yunzhi.
It currently has a P90 pickup, in the pic it has a Kent Armstrong HB.
