Hi folks,
what do you think about the Raezer´s Edge open back cabs?
Any experiences?

Hi! Yes, I have the 1x10, loaded with a Fat Jimmy alnico (60w) - it's lightweight and sounds great!!
-
Is the speaker stock or did you swap it?

Thoughts: lightweight, compact, and good sounding. They sound very good and they have a nice open sound.

Forgive my ignorance as I've seen these but never used one. What is the purpose of them? Do they enhance the amp speakers or bypass them for a different sound?

If maybe you're asking about "open- vs closed-back cabs," lots of info (and arguments!) online! Each has pros and cons, and of course, there are alternatives, too (like this and this)! [A lot of people probably have one of each!]

Sleeko, are you asking why should you use an external cab at all? Many amps come as "combos", i.e. the amplifier and the speaker are built into the same single unit. Many other amps come separate, where the amplifier itself is built into a "head", which is separate from the cabinet.
Lately there have been many amps that are popular among jazz guitarists that come as separate heads, hence the interest in cabinets. Bass players almost always play separate heads and cabinets.

I have an open back 10". It sounds very natural. I'm extremely happy with it.
-
Not the open vs closed backs but was asking specifically about the Raezer's Edge units being used with a combo amp and was curious as to why? I could see it if just using a Head unit because well, you need speakers for those but a combo already has speakers. See below for and example. Fender Amps with what look like Raezer's Edge units;

No answer to your question but JB really shredded on that tune thanks for sharing.

JW shredded as well. Those cats were the best of the best.

Sealed cabs and tightly damped ported / vented enclosures lack the spacious 360 degree dispersion you get from an open back cab. The rearward sound radiation adds natural ambience from all the added reflections, and there are lots of phase shifts in the reflected sound and its combination with the direct front radiation. This is part of the “bigger” sound you get from a Twin, Princeton, Boogie etc compared to a closed cab with equal power.

Another way to get this effect is to add an upward firing speaker. Even a little Toob Metro sitting on the floor and aimed at the ceiling really adds depth to the sound from a small amp or speaker.

Ah, makes sense. I've been wondering about this for a long time. The Acoustasonic amp is in fact a sealed back. It does however have stereo speakers that, in my music room, add dimension which is probably why it appeals to me so much. I do on occasion point it up to the ceiling so in the future I will see if I notice a difference.
