I tried a Sparkle Drive with the gain down and it made a noticeable difference so I think that's an easy solution going forward.

The band director will be even more annoyed with the OP!

Eldon Shamblin used a Strat for decades in the Texas Playboys. It's legit amd I'd probably do that. Maybe have a discussion with the bandleader about the problem, which might alleviate some of his reaction to the Strat. Like many people, he may listen with his eyes.

Can hear you on the first one. Nice play!
But not on the second one.

Ah, I see, I misunderstood. Where does your amp sit and where is it pointing?

I've actually resorted to that at times throughout my life. Usually because I didn't quite know the part yet. Nobody knew.

    Boost at around 800hz

(Or buy a Gibson. That’s the selling point of Gibsons as opposed to Ibanezes and other laminate jazz box builders for me - the natural midrange peak is great in the mix.)

    EQ pedal is cheaper.

I think it has more to do with guitar construction than the electronics.

Good lord, your group has twice the normal compliment of saxophones and a 2nd guitarist?!?!
That's not a big band, that's an enormous band!!!

Yes I have been eyeing a 175, especially with the mahogany back and sides....midrange for days I assume. But also yes, the Sparkle Drive I'm assuming is around 725Hz and does a fairly good job of making the guitar sit a bit better.

Just behind me and to the side. For performances it is usually on the drum riser so easier to hear.
