5 is in the way of the cutaway . i realized it's in the field of playing, luckily before the drilling began.
it's perfect where it is now. #6 should be an option.

Actually, provided the button sits in the "right" spot for number 5 (slightly more towards the neck - or #4 - rather than towards the body, so the strap doesn't pass over the flat back/bottom of the heel, but the rounded part that faces the headstock), it's actually the opposite - that prevents the guitar from tipping face forward (belly or not), and keeps imperfectly balanced horizontally...

the point where i put is what matters . it hangs, it balances. i can play it . i don't want to fight the instrument to play it.

This is what my luthier friend told me to do. My L5 CES is big, and has some weight. When I stand up and play it, the guitar leans forward - away from my body ( I don't have a large mid- section to my body to push the guitar treble side back towards me!!) The strap button is now located on the bottom of the neck heel, the flat part, centered.
