5 is in the way of the cutaway . i realized it's in the field of playing, luckily before the drilling began.
it's perfect where it is now. #6 should be an option.

Actually, provided the button sits in the "right" spot for number 5 (slightly more towards the neck - or #4 - rather than towards the body, so the strap doesn't pass over the flat back/bottom of the heel, but the rounded part that faces the headstock), it's actually the opposite - that prevents the guitar from tipping face forward (belly or not), and keeps imperfectly balanced horizontally...

Any place is an option. The ones in the photos with numbers are just the most common positions.

the point where i put is what matters . it hangs, it balances. i can play it . i don't want to fight the instrument to play it.

That was my point. You're free to put it wherever you want, wherever it works best for you.

That's because it is, just off-center a bit.

Whatever, I guess I have a magic guitar then.

This is what my luthier friend told me to do. My L5 CES is big, and has some weight. When I stand up and play it, the guitar leans forward - away from my body ( I don't have a large mid- section to my body to push the guitar treble side back towards me!!) The strap button is now located on the bottom of the neck heel, the flat part, centered.

I will need to put a button on the rim, away from the neck and centered. It will require adding a block inside the body rim, to accept a screw for the strap button.
