I have a project idea that might be suitable for them. Is it still happening? Are people still happy?

Not lately, it has been a few years. After getting my guitars from them I haven't needed another. I play my 16" parallel braced Wu archtop every day, and it's unequivocally the best-sounding guitar I own, and plays as well as any, including the Benedetto. I have nothing bad to say about my experiences, but again it has been about 5 years since I had any dealings with Wu/Lora. I've never dealt with Yunzhi.
-
Thanks. Is Mr. Yu still in business. None of the sites I could find associated with Lora mention him.

I cannot say. As I said, my last interactions were about 5 years ago. I heard that he had stopped building, then that he had resumed. I have no personal knowledge other than internet rumors. I would suggest emailing Lora with your inquiries. Try [email protected], that's the last email address I had for her. And it's Wu, not Yu.

Is this about your notional 8-string? I'm certain that either Yunzhi or Wu (they are not the same, nor even related) would accept the commission, but I would never guarantee that either would produce exactly what you want.

It is about that 8-string idea. If I do it, I think the best idea is to just convert a 12 string. Ibanez has a 335 style 12 that I think might be a fairly easy conversion.

Jim, you can purchase a brand new Yunzhi on Reverb

I was thinking of something very specific: a wider spacing, maybe a longer scale length, and double courses for the two middle strings like the two middle strings of a 12 string.

Read the About Us page. Wu Dong Ming signed my Wu guitar commissioned several years ago. It seems he may have moved to The Netherlands.
-
From what I remember of his guitars (including the batwing) I would bet on it. Some of those look exquisite, especially the T-Ultimate.

The build page says something about shipping the guitar to the Netherlands for hardware, so not sure where the guitar body etc is actually built.

I emailed them about certain specs and they are open to almost anything. That's the good news. The bad news is that they are way out of my price range. Wherever the wood work is done, everything else is done in the Netherlands and it shows in the price. 6500 Euros for an Ultimate T.

Thanks, i forgot about that webpage.
