I had a strange Reverb experience yesterday, so this is cautionary note to all.
I had been watching a couple of guitars as usual. When I checked my account yesterday morning, I discovered - much to my shock - that my offer on a guitar had been accepted. Except, I did not place an offer on any guitar. As I scrolled down the page, I found an invoice, waiting to be paid. The interesting thing is that the invoice was for a guitar that I had been watching, but not at the price in the listing. The listing price was $3200 plus $200 shipping. The invoice price was $4700 plus shipping, with a final price of over $5000!

I was stunned. Obviously, I did not pay the invoice. So I immediately contacted the owner and told him that I had not made an offer on the guitar and I suspected a scam. He immediately cancelled the order.

I don't know what to make of this, other than I suspected it was some kind of scam. I don't know if anyone here has had a similar experience with Reverb. I have used the site carefully for years and have not had a problem. But this experience has made me more cautious and just wanted to share it. I'd appreciate any incites and advice.

Haven't heard of that before, I'd tell Reverb about it. Makes you suspect that the Reverb watchlist feature can be hacked, so that someone other than the gear owner could identify watchlist subscribers and send them offers/bills for items they do not own.

This actually happened to me before too. I found out that I had placed an offer on reverb (for the listing amount, no less), and the seller had accepted it. I had to do the same thing, contact the seller and tell them I hadn't actually made the purchase. Turns out, it all happened in my pocket. My phone had failed to turn its screen off and various bumps from outside resulted in exactly the correct taps to buy a guitar I had been watching on Reverb.

As a result, I now make sure to turn the screen off before putting my phone in my pocket!

Hey I did that! It worked like a charm until the JumboTron caught me with my arms around a new guitar.

I usually use something along the lines of "I've had that for a while now, can't believe you didn't notice it before!"

That actually works for me, and I use it all the time, telling the truth. Today she asked me about my new shoes, which I bought about 5 years ago, with her with me, and have worn regularly since.
