It's a noise gate (albeit a sophisticated one). So it will help with noise while you're not playing/between notes, but won't help with EMI while you are playing. So if the problem you're dealing with is single coil buzz that's audible while you're playing, it won't solve that problem. That's what makes the Hum Debugger unique -- it reads the frequency of the line voltage in real time and cancels that. SFAIK, no other pedal does that (and I've never seen anything like it in a studio effect or plugin)

EHX makes some truly unique devices. I didn't know the Hum Debugger works that way, but it's brilliant. The Freeze is another pedal that is totally unique. I know there are copies, but the Freeze has a simplicity and a particular sound that is organic.

When I record I always make sure I'm in that orientation.That's something to try as a solution for hum while recording. I love the sound of my single coils, and I think a replacement would sound different. Plus it sounds like a pain in the ass on a Godin 5th Ave Kingpin.
