Came across this episode for a '22 Gibson Style 0.
Appraised @7k in 2017 which is a bit optimistic even for today. His assessment isn't really off otherwise until the end when he says the guitar w out the original case is worth 4-4.5k.
Granted original cases add value, but this isn't a burst case, certainly doesn't add 2.5-3k to the value of a Style 0.
Local dealer Fred Oster occasionally appraises instruments for AR and really knows his stuff.
    But these other guys.....

Fortunately she didn't get ripped off by the earlier ridiculous $1.5-2k appraisal.

Antiques roadshow is full of lying scammer-estimators. I guess I could go into detail about some of their scams but I'll just say that show sucks and is fake and leave it at that.

How about Pawn Stars? Those guys don't know a thing and it's all staged, but one thing it did teach me: Do your research and DIY. Looking for fast money for treasures? It's good for a show but I hope that avenue of desperation is never the only choice for a player and their musical companion.

The Antique Roadshow has done more disservice to guitars than anything I know. I have seen these guys in action and they all come on like picture*perfect seeds of wisdom and knowledge. That is total bullshit. This goes really for about everything they show not just guitars. The whole thing makes me sick. In the end the real expects are those in the guitar world who are players, builders, and manufactures. Even big-time collectors many times do not know much about what they have simply because they have a huge collection and money to do other things.

Take a look at inside of the business of vintage guitars. Even among the most knowledgeable there are disagreements and differences in evaluating guitars. We all need to simply be glad that in some ways the very ultra rich don't get too involved in vintage guitars especially jazz archtops. Some billionaire, and there are quite a few these days, could own and remove all the D'angelico's, Daquistos. Strombergs, and high end Montellone's at once. The best thing is they have too much money to focus only on one thing like vintage jazz archtops.

Image in Elon Musk called the owners of D'angelicos just on this website and said, " sight unseen I will give you $200,000 for your D'angelico. What do you think would happen. My math says that would .02% of his wealth. That would be about $80 of a $400,000 house. Completely nothing. I think Elon is worth of 100 billion too.

Richard Johnston of Gryphon Stringed Instruments has appeared on the show occasionally. I see Johnston as both honorable and knowledgeable.

I have watched only one episode, and I did that to win an argument. It was the one about the Hendrix Strat. I did some research and found that everyone in the episode was faking it, even the other customers. Under CFR Part 1016 - Privacy of Consumer Financial Information (Regulation P) it is illegal to reveal the identities of pawn shop customers to unaffiliated third parties. So all the people you see in the background are friends of the shop staff.

I got a kick out of a Road Show somewhere in the American South where a guy brought in a 40's Martin dread in fine shape. Said he found laying around his daddy's attic when the ol' boy died. Guy's shocked when he finds out what it's worth. Appraiser: "Not bad for just laying around the attic, right?"

Guy: "Won't be layin' round for long!"

You think vintage archtops are ridiculously over-priced?! I wish RShow did more musical instruments and a lot less pottery and baseballs.

BTW, I know RetroFret isn't shy about the big ask, but they have a '24 Style 0 in it's original case listed for $8K. I guess it's a collector piece. I can see that. Unusual axe.
