Does anyone have some accurate dimensions on the Comins GCS-16 neck?
I prefer chunky necks but not huge.
I have had my hands on an early GCS-1 semihollow and it was too small for me.
My hope is that the GCS-16 is bigger.
Hard to find newer Archtop guitars with any substantial sized necks.
I ended up with a Benedetto Bambino that has medium sized
.850”to 1” It’s the only Bambino that had enough shoulder as well.
I finally got the guitar today, and I will say it's a lovely guitar. I've been playing on an Eastman Romeo LA with flatwounds and getting a nice tone, but still wanted a full hollowbody and the Comins certainly delivers.
The neck does have a nice c shape, albeit on the smaller size. I think that for jazz playing/manuevering (it's certainly more demanding with my skillset), it probably is for the better that it's a smaller than a nice '57 Les Paul neck.
Here's the measurements I took. I couldn't take them from the 12th because the transition to the heel has already occurred, and it seems that the 10th fret is the closest place to take a measurement that makes sense.
I measure the fretboard from the corner of the binding, back around the neck, to the other edge of the binding. It can kind of give a sense of shoulders if you compare to other guitars.
Thank you so much, I do appreciate it. Unfortunately for me, the size at the first fret is too small for my preferences.
That said, how do you like the acoustic sound unplugged?
An aleatoric piece written by a friend, which I will be performing as part of an ensemble next Tuesday at Birmingham Conservatoire. The electric guitar part consists of short fragments of varying...
I'm a great believer in the power of the VANN Diagram. I don't have to have a 100% overlap just have to focus on the area of the diagram where the two sets intersect. My taste doesn't intersect...
Eminence Lil' Texas is also the speaker that Jonathan Stout and Nik Rossi do recommend to approach the sound of vintage field-coil speakers. Both are absolute experts concerning swing-guitar, and...
Yep. I think I may have told this story elsewhere, but I met him quite a few times and even got to learn a few things from him at some summer workshops he hosted. He really liked me because our...
I try to reply without asking further questions. While there's nothing wrong with the sound of Charlie Christian or Oscar Moore, early electric guitar sounds - and their recordings - were often...
No surprise there. The SICA drivers used in the BG+ have a sensitivity rating of 91 dB (1 Watt @ 1 meter). The 10" C Rex gets 99.3 dB from the same Watt, and the second speaker adds another 3 dB to...
I have to say, I played one of these recently at a store near me and it was a really great guitar. I typically do not like PRS guitars (I admit, because of the birds) but this has made me somewhat of...
