Here’s a very shiny, almost-mint, 2001 Martin HD-28VS. Whoever originally owned it just didn’t play it - it has no fret wear and is shiny as hell - impressive for a 25 year-old guitar. It sounds great, to be expected, and will no doubt sound even greater when someone plays the bejeebus out of it. Not I, though. I tried, I really tried, but I just don’t get along with dreadnoughts. Funny, because I love big fat archtops, as some of you may know. So, off it goes to someone who appreciates dreadnoughts.
Every few years, Martin makes a few of these in some Limited Edition way, and then discontinues them. They call it a “retired” model. Related to the equally retired HD-28V but with a slotted headstock, 12th fret neck-body joint and longer body. This one has a 1 3/4” nut width, and a hint of a V-to-C neck shape, which is very comfortable. It comes with nickel-plated Waverly tuners.
East Indian Rosewood, Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany neck, ebony board.
$3,750 plus shipping takes it away. I prefer to sell it, but, if you have something to that might interest me in a partial or full trade, let me know. I was looking at the "Flattops only" thread and figured, why not?

I had the D18VS version if this a few years ago - absolute cannon and one of the best fingerstyle guitars I've ever owned.
-
Despite my comfort with 17" and 18" deep-bodied archtops, I just don't get along with the dreadnought form. Go figure. I'll make do with my O-18 and my M-36 (although the M-36 is due for a neck reset, at which point it will get a whopper neck), very different and equally wonderful instruments.

If that guitar was in Australia I would buy it in a heartbeat. A bargain.
A true cannon and a design that was reprised by Collings as DS1 and DS2 models for many dollars more.

I have a 69 D18S inherited from my late father. All I can say is that 12 fret on a D size body does a lot of things well. I always wondered how a rosewood version would have sounded.

Probably because of the depth at the rims. They're pretty crazy deep.

Easy. The forum has a "Private Message" function - just send me a note there. I've sent one to you. Just click on my name at the top of any one of my posts. It also has a "Send Email" function, but I find the PM easier to manage.
