Hi!
I'm offering my The Loar 700 archtop (a copy of a pre-war Gibson L5) for sale, asking price is 1100.- Euro.
The guitar sounds wonderful, is super loud and plays excellently in all registers. Low string action, no fret buzz or dead notes.
It has been played a lot and therefore has some signs of wear in the nitrocellulose lacquer. There was once a hole in the top for a potentiometer, which has been professionally filled and is barely visible. There is also an opening for a potentiometer in the pickguard.
Currently, a DeArmond Monkey on a Stick pickup is installed. The pickup works excellently and sounds very authentic, but the potentiometers scratch a little. The guitar is available for 250.- Euro less without this pickup.
An old (90ies) hard case is included.
Currently, 13-gauge Martin 80/20 bronze strings are fitted. The first two photos show the guitar with the pickup and large fretboard stickers, which look surprisingly good but can be removed easily and without leaving any residue. The remaining pictures are a little older and show the guitar without the pickup and stickers.
Testing and collection preferred (Vienna, Austria), but shipping within the EU is possible.Last edited by SolidSemiHollow; 10-08-2025 at 08:00 AM.

FURTHER REDUCED: Now 900.- Euros.
Why hasn't this sold yet???
This is a seriously great guitar! I'm only selling it as I bought an L4 recently.
Any questions, feel free to ask!

What kind of l4?
-
A sunburst from 1945. It was about 4 times the money than this Loar. The L4 is a great guitar, but the Loar comes very close. I wouldn't notice the difference in a band mix.

Personally, I can't hear much difference in a band setting. Both play really well, the soft V neck on the Loar is even a bit more to my liking as the L4 has a huge U neck.

dang, I've been looking for a used Loar. If only you were in the states

Hi @SolidSemiHollow
So you can fit it in a Hiscox case it seems?
I see you removed the pup in that pic. Are the pup and knobs included in the sale?
Is this a V neck?
Where in the world are you based?
Cheers!

I'm located in Austria, Europe.

This is a bit confusing... Seems you're showing a different instrument here in the case?

Which one is it you are selling?

Apologies for the confusion. I only show two different instruments. All but the last image show my Loar 700, which is for sale. On some images it has the Dearmond pickup and neck inlay stickers, on other not (please see the description).

Alright ? that all makes sense now.
Neck inlay stickers?! Was totally unaware such things are allowed!?!
So it's got the dot ones for real then I presume.
-
Exactly! I like the stickers, but they can be easily removed within minutes (even with the strings on).
-
Could you pls take close up pics of the area affected by the repair? (the fill for the pot that was)?
And the back of the body and neck please?
Cheers!
-
Is that where the repair was done?
Did you do this yourself?
Thanks

The OP said he was selling the Loar to help pay for his L4. I asked to see a pic of the L4!

The repair was done before I bough the guitar in 2018, afaik professionally.
Here is another pic of it, plus one showing that it is well covered by the pickup controls in most cases. The visible crack is just in the lacquer, not in the wood.

Nice playing!
In my world I would not refer to this as Pro, sorry. I guess those would have been harder to get hold of in Austria, that is harder than over here.
Good luck with your sale!
