I’m a big fan of C.P. Thornton. He makes a great guitar. I just sold my Thornton tele a few weeks ago on this site. I also have one of his strats. This is his HTL Homage to Leo model!! It was $3800 new and dated 1/29/2024. Serial number is 747.

Why am I posting it here. Well I can get a pretty nice jazz tone out of this baby which was kind of a surprise. Might be the woods or the lighter weight. I didn’t buy it with a jazz tone in mind, so it was a nice bonus. But I am getting up there in age and continuing my downsize project.

Its never been out on a gig. Excellent condition but it has a few marks that won't show up in a picture. It probably has 5 hours of playtime. The guitar plays like a dream. Nicely broken-in feel. The guitar looks and feels amazing, well balanced and lightweight coming in at just under 7 pounds. Pine is a very underrated wood with plenty of snap and mids. No cracks, repairs or issues.
    Here are the spec’s:

How do you break in a guitar in 5 hours? Maybe it's what you play in those 5 hours

I have a small collection of his work. I also have some G&Ls. The latter are very decent instruments. Thorntons are all that and pieces of art.

Jazzbobh446 is a no risk seller. I bought his tele and I'm more than satisfied with the quality, sound, and form and function of the guitar, and the smoothness of the transaction with him. I wouldn't hesitate to make a deal if this guitar fit your specs. Thornton builds a beautiful guitar.

In my lifetime, guitars came and went. Thorntons are keepers. The HTL is a classic. The buyer will be happy.

Chuck Thornton is one of the finest luthiers in the US. He's been on his own for about 21 years and was a superb luthier for many years before that. He also built upscale cellos, which is where he began studying advanced bracing.

The only issue I ever had with about 20 of his instruments was nitro checking on two guitars made at the same time. He told me it was a bad batch of nitro. I happened to know that the same thing occured at Heritage. Chuck refinished the guitars. Here is the one I still have.

I also have two, very soon to be three, of his take on the Tele.

I also have his original take on a Strat kind of guitar called the Fusion. If I didn't have that I would get the currently listed HTL.

I've had a lot of guitars from quite a few sources. None have been superior to Chuck Thornton's work. Also, he's a great communicator. I can reach him by phone or email easily. Further, he understands pickups and electronics as well as the nuances of the hardware. The last Tele type guitar I showed has wide field humbuckers with a partial coil split using push-pull knobs.

I'm posting this because there are many choices when buying a Strat, and I've certainly had my share, as I have with Teles. Chuck's guitars cost more, but the hand-picked upscale woods, top notch hardware and electronics, and and the hand building by a true master with excellent long term follow up care is easily worth the extra cost. These are heirloom guitars.

Here's a pic of Chuck playing an archtop he built and I have, his 10th Anniversary model. Chuck Thornton | Fine Archtops

Here's the model for sale being demo'd.
