Correct, though you can get a 650 scale 1A these days.

Gypsy guitars (oval hole) are 670. I have seen Flamenco guitars that are 650, 665 and 670.

I should note that JP Favino did his oval hole Gypsy guitars at 665.

Hmm, OK, I may have confounded things. But 665 is a lot closer to 670 than to 650 or the shorter scale lengths that have been becoming more popular - and I have never heard comparative recordings of a decades-old Ramirez as far as I'm aware. For me, my argument stands even with 5mm less, and 670mm flamencos make the "spanish sound" claim only stronger of course.

670mm scale length and low action, you'd almost think that they're looking for strings buzzing and slapping against the frets

Everything on a guitar adds a part to the the final tone of her and of course there is a subtle yet hearable difference in different fretboard woods. I‘m building Teletypes and I can always hear it ;-)

Since this is a long thread, let me add this question. Does anyone think a solid body, a semi-hollow body, or a laminate hollow body opens up after playing for a while? In theory, time, handling and sound exposure should have some effect, but is it noticeable?

One thing I'm confident about is that the player gains comfort, figures out the strings to put on it, and knows the settings for the instrument and amp better.

    Think you said, right?

    - solid body: only to the extent that a new set of strings opens up. (Assuming PUs don't open up with time, and excluding any perceived "opening up" that's in fact getting acquainted with the instrument!)
    - semi-hollow: if you mean chambered I would think "see above" but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt
    - lamiate hollow-body (aka real guitar with laminate plates): yes, though (probably much) less than a solid-wood instrument. Even my wood-body resonator opened up with playing, and there we're talking about a thick-and-rigid walled laminate box that doesn't have the same acoustic function as a regular guitar body has.
