What guitar is he playing? It seems to have the resonance of an archtop but in a very thin body. Very pretty sound.
And speaking of absolutely beautiful melodic guitar playing......

Possibly a Tom Doyle:
"JB: My first was an old Guild Starfire III but I also eventually got a Gibson Byrdland that I had for years and wish I still had now – a very cool instrument. For the last 10 years or so my main instrument is a custom Tom Doyle. Tom is a wonderful luthier who also designs the pickups as well. It’s sort of a thin body, spruce archtop model, very versatile, that can function in any situation. It can really crank, play soft “acoustic” Freddie Green style, as well as get a nice clean and dark sound at any volume level."

In the comments section below the video, Basile responds to someone asking that question, "It's a custom Tom Doyle. Tom designed the guitar (Chambered w/ spruce top) as well as the Tom Doyle pkup."
Thanks for posting this video. I might otherwise have never heard this great player, which would be a shame.

Oh that guitar is a used one and it's at guitars and jazz in New Jersey. It says it has a center block. I was excited because it has a spruce top so I assumed it was a very thin carved top archtop. But it's a semi hollow. In which case I don't get the big deal about the spruce top. It seems like the center block would discount any advantage of a spruce top.
Good find on this. Unfortunately Tom Doyle no longer makes guitars so this used one would be the only option. It sounds great in John Basiles video but I'm less excited since it's a semi hollow.

Rob Engel worked with Tom for a while -- great guitars!
Bob DeVos plays them nicely!
