Hello there, recently played a '66 ES-175. I loved the slim, pencil neck on it. Are there other hollowbodies that you know of with the same neck size, shape?
I haven’t played your 175, but my Heritage 575 has a narrow, fast neck that reminds me of a Japanese GB10 I owned some time ago. AFAIK the Heritage guitars had all kinds of variations in the past, there are probably more narrow necked 575s around.
I had a Samick HF 650 that had a very thin neck. IIRC, the nut was 1 5/8" rather than the 1-9/16" of the skinniest '60s Gibsons, but the overall neck profile was about the same.
Nice 175 !
Have been lucky enough to own a 66 Tal Farlow with this kind of neck in 25.5 scale.
Fantastic sound whatever amp used !
This is a digitized slide with poor color rendering : the Viceroy Brown was lighter, more chocolate brown.
Many Guilds from the late '50s and early '60s had 1-5/8" necks.
Oddly enough, my '55 ES-175D has a 1-5/8" nut and a fairly slim depth, which was atypical for the era. Moral of the story is, in that era there were no absolutes, only general trends. Judge each individual instrument on its own merit.
Wow just the opposite for me. I really like the late1950’s Gibson larger necks with the 1&11/16” width. I find these later 1965 necks way too cramped for my hands.

Yeah I know. You just misstated the alternative.
And most people aren’t reading chords, so that might make sense for the occasional guitarist or pianist, but for most situations isn’t...
The closest I've found is in page 35 of Joe Pass Guitar Style where he introduces some solos that are all eighth notes by saying that by eliminating rhythmic variety you force the ear into building...
I bought this course on Monday and I've just come back home from the library, having printed off the PDF there.
Looking forward to working through this.

And I promise to look at any and all photos you may post !!
I wouldn't recommend doing continuous scale exercises before getting good at continuous arpeggios in quarter notes. Continuous scales in every chord change would be too big a hurdle before getting...
Interesting. Can you please point me to the where he talked about this?
I've seen continuous scale exercises in various sources, mostly written by pianists. Most notably, it is recommended in Mark...
That's right. The more important distinction I wanted to make was Barry’s exercises are not continuously voice-lead. At least I have never seen him talk about this version. In one workshop I...
I'm from the 'Modern School' that (wrongly?) thinks modern compositions should have no Key Signature and I use a flat 'b' when descending and a sharp '#' when ascending.
