It was a try at an upgrade. Cannot lie the sound did not change at all. Was expecting big, big changes.

On the level. I like Mark C’s abalone truss rod cover so asked him if he could sell me one. Sure enough not long after it shows up in the mail. Minor but nonetheless cool.

If you want big changes, you have to use the pointy end to clean out your ear canals. Then, and only then, should you install it.

I think MOP would have matched better

Those things are backed in metal, aren't they IIRC?
Also no screws on the bottom but they stay in place!
MOP goes great with those machines Vinnie!
-
No metal and yes because of the wide bottom they stay in place.
-
The truss rod cover on Vinny's custom is solid MOP - the abalone covers are made using thin shell veneer laminated to an aluminum base plate.

Right, that's what I have. Thanks for clearing that up, Mark!

And if you like it thats ALL that matters.
Still, my favorite Campellone was the plain Standard, with the Macassar Headstock, fretboard, Bridge and Tailpiece treatment. And if I still had that guitar, I would have begged Mark to make up a Macassar pickguard for it as well.
I often wonder how that guitar is doing..

Joe there are lots of folks debating if a guitar top opens up over time. Well in the case of this truss rod cover I played Anthropology up-tempo, better than I had maybe ever got it before, right after putting it on. I really think the truss rod cover was the explanation................countless hours of practice had some effect, but the abalone just took over.................you heard it here first.
