Not looking for flat wound string. I already have a Heritage Eagle Standard Classic jazz archtop set up set up with Thomastik George Benson flatwound strings for straight ahead jazz.

I'm looking for a string for my ES 345 that is a "flattened" or half wound type of string that will limit the amount of string screech, yet have good tone and sustain. My ES 345 is my more versatile jazzy blues/blues-y jazz and straight blues guitar. I'm open to recommendations. Thank you!

I like the GHS "Brite Flats"! When new, the "half round" strings have a weird "sticky" machining texture to them which wears off after playing them for awhile. I pull them through "0000" grade steel wool a few times before installing them, and they're good to go!
They are more lively than a flat wound, and less bright than a round wound.
I generally prefer Tomasticks on my archtop, but their prices have gone crazy, so this is what I do.

You'll have to try different options to see which type (if any!) works for you. I ended up using Elixir Nanowebs (not Polywebs) after trying, for example:
    Pyramid polished pure nickels
    D'Addario half wounds
    GHS nickel rockers
TI Bebops (tried b/c some said they were quieter-they're not IME)....

I think the only ones I never tried were GHS brite flats

Edit: As a side note, as I just saw it's for a 345, someone kindly lent me his 335 strung with TI flats at a recent jam session and I had no problem laying down the funk (middle position) when The Sidewinder was called. I've heard of people using overdrive with TI flats, and you could always swap out the G for a plain for blues bends if required.

I think GHS Nickel Rockers would fit your description; they're my favorite strings.

I've been looking for the string you described for ever. Don't think it exists. The closest I've come are the Pyramid nickel classic hand polished. Less squeal still a wound string with a warmish sound. Sort of like the sound of thomastik flats when they are brand new but not at all smooth. Tried them all. Seems like someone should make that string but just haven't seen it.

GHS Brite Flats work for me.
