I wanted to give a quick shoutout to Raezer’s Edge and the fine Mr. Geoff Felsher for what a great product that they offer and the truly excellent customer service that they provide. I ordered a custom NY-8 before Christmas, and it is on its way now. Why am i so excited about something i have not even received yet? How about the entire transaction was done with a few emails, directly with Mr. Felsher, and the cabinet was completed exactly when promised and made as requested. I received a paypal invoice and two pics showing the awesomeness. I ordered custom tolex, custom grill cloth, and custom leather corners and handle. In fairness to them i will not share the price suffice to say it was overall very fair as was the custom upcharge. I will post further info when i receive it but i wanted to share some pics now because it is beautiful. I play through a Luna amp which is just a beautiful, highly musical amp for jazz guitar, and these guys are first class all the way so i wanted to give credit where credit is due.

    Sweet cab!
Yes, Geoff and crew are wonderful to work with! I dig my RE open-back 1x10 cab!
    Enjoy!

Geoff is amazing. I have had him do some basic customizations for me but never thought to do a vox fawn tolex. Very nice design choice.

I know the closed back cabs get a lot of love from jazz players, but I strong recommend people check out the open back ones. They are light and have a very open sound. They're made with birch ply (but thinner pieces than the usual birch cabinet) making them as light as a pine cab but a bit brighter and more direct sounding.

I have a 12 inch open back cabinet (not made by RE) and i am using the same eminence speaker in it that they use. Its a great sounding cabinet but a bit much for household practice. I have the 700 watt (at 4 ohms) Luna and the speaker is rated as 250 watts at 8 ohms i think, so it moves a lot of air even at low volumes. You are correct that they sound great and i am sure the RE cabinet would be even better as the build quality is higher. That eminence beta 12 sounds fantastic, very warm and punchy with no brittleness, especially with the jazz-centric eq of the Luna.

That cab looks beautiful! I hope the leather corners hold up for you, I assume you’ll have a cover. My 2 RE12ERs are the finest sounding guitar cabs I have ever played through. At my age they are too big and heavy to carry around, but I can’t part with their sound in my studio.

Thanks, i am looking forward to it. It will be a bedroom/practice cabinet so the leather corners shouldn’t be an issue. A little cream conditioner now and then should keep them nice for a long time.

i did not order the extended range because i play jazz and its already a small speaker, but i would be interested in hearing from you and others if you find that you actually use the tweeter. I do like that they have it connected to a volume control to adjust it.

i wanted to share the cabinet because i think RE as a small company get overshadowed by the bigger more well known names, wrongfully so, and i do not think many realize the extent to which they will do custom work at a very fair price. Mine was pretty conservative but they have lots of options and can do pretty much anything you want. The total cost for this cab was not much different than an empty cabinet from others, and i think their construction is top notch.

Very striking look, I like it. I've never used one of these and was wondering what is the purpose of them? Thanks.

They are very compact cabinets (12x15x9 for the ny8), but because they are closed-back and ported have a nice focused tone with good bass and midrange. Plus, they use speakers with a high wattage rating and a neutral tone with a very high distortion threshold (this 8 inch speaker is rated 250 watts at 8 ohms) so they are great for a clean tone from an amp with a good eq.

i would add that RE products offer great quality and value for the money. They are a small company and everything is pretty much handmade/assembled. The standard ny8 is 350 bucks, thats pretty darn fair for a handmade cabinet with quality components and a 250 watt speaker. The amps are as boutique as can be and about 5-600 for solid state, more for tube. All good stuff.
