Homepage - D'Angelico Guitars
D’Angelica just introduced new versions of their Excel EXL-1 and Style B. I purchased the previous Throwback Style B last September and love it. The new version replaces the Seymour DuncanJohnny Smith with a Dearmond Rhythm Chief and slightly shorter scale. The video of the three guitars sound pretty darn good. The new models are less expensive than the previous ones.
just an FYI

I like the Whitfield model. I just would like to see more color options.

They look great, but it’s all about how they sound in your hands.

Rich Severson previewed the new D'Angelico on Thursday during his weekly livestream. I've been watching his livestreams for the past 3 years and it was the first time I've seen him play a D'Angelico, which he seemed to like.

The pup on that one is a USA Seymour Duncan 59. You might not need to upgrade to the 57 Classic.

Listening to the demo's on the website they both sound nice but i liked the Excel B with the Rhythm Chief better.I see they are selling for $1,600 online which seems like a more than reasonable price.

Never tried one of those, I only know that I was converted to the 57 classics after having being ignorantly snobby about boutique pickups being better. I tested all the top recommended high end pickups (throbak, lollar, etc) in my Wesmos I concluded that the 57 is the perfect pickup for an archtop. Maybe the SD is great though.
