Here's one for the many Campellone fans on this forum:
Completed last July, this custom EP model has a 15" wide body, 24-3/4" scale, carved spruce top and laminated back and sides. It's 2- 1/2" deep and the neck joins the body at the 15th fret. Jack on the side of the body. I asked Mark to do extra fancy binding and inlay and he was nice enough to agree. He had some special abalone inlays saved, and offered them for my guitar.
I have owned Sadowsky SS-15 and Jimmy Bruno, and I like this size guitar. I wanted something with more acoustic sound, so Mark carved the top with that in mind. It is still extremely resistant to feedback. Wonderful amplified tone and surprisingly nice acoustic sound, though obviously not that of a bigger guitar. The size and light weight and other features make it a much more practical instrument (for me) than a 17" archtop.
The neck is flamed one-piece maple, and the body laminate has some nice figure. None of this is very visible in normal lighting because of the red color. But I know it's there.
I don't think anybody does binding better than Mr. Campellone:
The inlays remind me of Smurf vomit....
I'm really enjoying the guitar. There can be risks in having a custom instrument made, but it came out perfect!
(This model has been discontinued for quite a while. Mark had some leftover parts and I am grateful that he agreed to build one for me.)Last edited by Gilpy; 01-11-2024 at 12:23 PM.
