The Quilter SuperBlock is next to the Holy Grail, except too bright and lacking a wee bit of critical mass in clean headroom. A cyber-somebody suggested a booster pedal, such as Xotic EP Booster or TC Electronic Spark Mini Booster as a remedy. Has anybody tried? My booster pedal is on loan.

Obviously anything with a boost engaged is not going to help the headroom aspect (which I agree is just a little too low for my tastes). But at/below unity gain, I have been quite fond of using my Nocturne Brain preamp in front of the Super Block. I think it livens things up, increases clarity, gives it a touch more sparkle (in a good way), and creates an overall more interesting sound. The bass cut switch can also been handy on boomy archtops with loud low E strings.

In another thread, I posted about using the Brute EQ pedal from Jazzmus. I was really happy about the result – it completely tames the brightness.

I have Spark. I’ll try it at some point and let you know.

This.

trem effect is barely there in the background. It is a basic JHS 3 series- not too many bells or whistles but does give a nice amp bias trem or harmonic trem.

I use an Xotic Super Sweet , the low gain Super Clean is a bit more suited to Jazz.
