    Hey jazz lovers,

I'm desperately looking for a particular octave tone used in many 70's or 80's jazz solos, sounding almost like a choir behind the main line, higher pitch at least, maybe lower as well.

I've searched the net for weeks but never found any clue on how to get it. Most today people are using octaver to simulate bass or add a -1 octave in their line ; not a single pedal demo found matching my quest.

So here is a perfect example of what I'm after, at 3:50. Any idea of what it is? OC-5, POG, something else?

    Thanks!

I could get some similar sound with my Lexicon LXP5 (one of many great sounds, actually, I had one in the 80's).

Marc Lonchampt... nice guitarist! I wasn't aware of him, thanks for sharing.

On my old phone it sounds more like a scat vocal in unison rather than an octave.

It does sound like scat though he is not opening his mouth and has no microphone...

Hi. I wasn't suggesting he was vocalizing but that the effect that he was using sounded like scat.

It's definitely a pedal. We can clearly see him engaging it with his foot just before the solo.

No idea what the effect is, but it reminds me of Mike Stern's sound; he uses a chorus/doubler to get that effect... he also uses a Boss Multi-overtone pedal, some delay...

Jim Hall also could get a somewhat similar sound out of a Lexicon LXP1 (I think it was)... Marc's must be a pedal (and sounds more "modern" and realistic, as a "human voice" humming along with the guitar...

@ the OP: Perhaps you might try to reach out to him, directly, through some social-media, or swomething...?

I tried to get in touch through the luthier who made the guitar he's playing in this video, with no success. I can try to get in touch directly but was a bit shy until now.

You could leave a comment under the Youtube video, asking what pedal it is...

I once saw, about ayear ago, a video by Rhett Schull, where he was demoing a guitar-pedal that emulates (perfectly!) a human voice! (personally, I'm not interested, though I must admit it's really outstanding!).

It sounds to me like a harmoniser effect and there are several pedals that would get you that sort of sound, such as the Digitech Whammy (which is what Jim Hall used), the EHX Pog or a Boss Harmonist, to name just three.

You might send a message or comment to Marc Lonchampt on Facebook. He looks to be pretty active on there, on both his personal and artist pages.

For vocal effect, there's always the Miku

There is a "Humanizer" effect in my old Boss ME8 multifx. I used to use it for a very approximate voice box sound when covering 'Show Me the Way.

Sounds like a POG to me

Probably a pitch shifter pedal, but a modulated short delay can give you that sound as well.

Looks like the stank face control is set a little high.
