Well, IIRC, TIs are the only nickel wrapped flatwounds. So that makes a difference. Although I was thinking more broadly than just flatwounds, since I don't like 'em very much.

[QUOTE=Cunamara;1323681It would be interesting to study this in a blind hearing test; do people think these are the best strings because they are among the most expensive (and therefore, because we have invested heavily in them, are prone to perceiving them as being better) or because they really do have a "superior" sound that most peoples' ears would agree.[/QUOTE]
Amplified tone, acoustic tone, feel under the fingers, gauge…I’ve found that it’s the combination of these that place a string in my “favorite/preferred” category with “amplified tone” having the least weight.
The TI Swings sound way better acoustically than D’Addario Chromes on my guitars. The feel is nothing short of “high class”.
Amplified tone on almost all strings always ends up sounding like me, good or bad…hehhehheh!
Of course, my hands, my ears.

Well, all of this of course is subjective. The strings that came on my ES-175 turn out to be John Pearse Jazz 11s. I really like them and will continue to use them, although I may experiment with my usual SIT S1150 set.

Here's a summary of all the flats I could find, with UK prices.

Thanks, but, some in your list are round wound strings?

    Do Elixir Nanoweb make flats?

Only 2, Elixir and Newtone, as they're alternatives sometimes considered by flats users.

I was just thinking trying a set .They're more expensive than TI around here though... alas not on a 175, (Howard Roberts fusion III ).

Amazing how many 175 owners there are on this forum....

They were on my '63 175 when I got it a couple of years ago. They are still on it and they give the perfect thunk. I never have to tune the guitar.
