No conflating. I said it was a sample rate.. not frequency. Was making the point that many IR's don't give you a frequency range. Just sample rate. Since they are the mic, the room, and the speaker it doesn't have to be 5Khz.. or maybe frequency is just assumed. Maybe not.

A low pass on electric guitar certainly leaves room for other stuff in a mix if that's the sound you want. I did try setting an IR with a 10Khz low pass and a 5Khz low pass to hear the difference using a U87 mic and a 1X10 Princeton speaker as the base. It did not sound the same.

I'm not interested in arguing.. I'm curious how IR's are made and how the mic and room are taken into account. And after using FRFR speakers for years, I already know I'm not going back to guitar cabinets. So I'll leave it here.

Here is John Cordy's take on it, he's not an expert, he seems to use his ears.

Years ago, he posted some nice mellow playing on the UK Guitar Forum.

LOL that’s the guy in the initial video here who said this was the best FR speaker out there. I like his opinions, mainly. He’s’ a straight shooter. He did get mad at the fact that Fender didn’t send him their ToneMaster Pro to demo (the fact that he spoke at length why he didn’t get mad at them made me think, “he doth protest too much”) and he got made that the TMP was sent to non-modeling pros such as Mary Spender (who, not knowing much about modelers, remarked how “Fun” it was. The fact that she called them “Fun” made him mad: you’re not supposed to have fun, you’re supposed to tweak like an engineer forever, otherwise you’re not allowed in the rabbit hole!).
