I ended up getting an amp today, and after a bit of playing around this evening, I'm pretty happy with it.

I settled on a Peavey Transtube Rage 158. Fifteen solid state watts for $40 Cad. (Thanks for the suggestion DJG.)

I'm still considering the Sweet Baby Champ clone if it's still around and if I have the funds at the end of the month.

But many of the responses here suggested that the best really quiet sound would be had from a solid state amp. That and the price for a used Peavey is hard to beat. There happened to be half a dozen or more used ones currently up for sale locally.

So far I have only had it turned up to 3 on the clean channel. Stay tuned to find out if it works for full band stuff down the road!

you're welcome. while i also have TM deluxe reverb with attenuator, i enjoy using the 158 for practice at home. i even played very small gigs with it.

    Silvertone 1471. It’s 95% a champ circuit.

Please feel free to weigh in.
The SF (hardly any difference compare to BF, since Fender hasn't changed the model) Champ and Vibro Champ amps are amazing if you can find one in good condition. The factory Alnico speaker should be replaced because it breaks up early, but otherwise it is a perfect practice amplifier, and even with a good speaker (WGS G8A or G8C) it is also usable on stage in duo and trio setups. It is an incomparably better amplifier than the Pro Junior.
