Looking at this through medical glasses this is what I see. There are many well documented complications of GAS. Debt, divorce and having no place for a bed are the top three. I recently experienced a new one. I have been aware of the variety of rationalizations engendered by GAS to justify new purchases. But only when I almost sold my L4C did I understand that "devaluation of current gear" is an important aspect of this. Once I got the Trenier this complication started to intensify. I convinced my self the L4C was not for me so of course I needed another archtop. My recollection of playing it was distorted by my wanting to believe it had to go. But I've been playing the heck out of it for 2 days now. I remember why I bought it (actually traded a Gibson and a Martin for it)....because it's a great guitar with beautiful tone and playability. It almost got sacrificed because of the GAS comorbidity. Getting a great guitar doesn't make one you have less than it is! Be on the look out.

    Play long and well....Peter

Of course, after reading your previous post, I began investigating the Duesenberg line of lap steels (with the string benders). Like you, my wife was very happy when I sold off my last in a long line of pedal steels. The Duesenberg looks like a potentially more “spousally-acceptable” way to make pedal steel guitar noises. I’ll be really interested to hear how you get along with yours.

I play my Barker guitar all the time. In another thread I mentioned I bought it January 30th 1979. Since then I have own some of the best and most respected carved top guitars in existence.

45 years ago I did not realize that what I had was great. I fully comprehend this today and take joy in playing it. The neck, sound, floating Dearmond makes it hard to beat.

Please get the L4 out and play it more. Historically it will hold its own even above the Trenier.
