Long ago and far away, gibson 175, helix stomp pedal

I know a lot of you hate the delay sound on an archtop but it really is the sound I hear in my head. Apologies in advance. I love my barney kessel but oddly, it doesn't inspire me as much as my 175...

This song was written in 1944 and is a lesser played standard. This was one of the few songs I taught my dad. After all the hundreds of songs he taught me, he heard me play it several years ago and I sent him the lead sheet on it because it was one of the few standards he didn't know.

I often wondered if Charlie Parker ever played this tune. The version I learned from was Phil Woods who was a cantankerous dude but could play his ass off.

I wonder if Phil ever heard Charlie Parker play it?

This song makes me wistful and I'll always think of dad when I hear it.

However, there is a section of the lyric that reminds me of my wife.

"Just one look and then I knew, That all I longed for long ago was you"

And that's literally what happened with Sandra. The first time I ever saw her, I knew she was the love of my life.

Thanks, i hate to admit it but I might like the 175 better than the kessel. And lately, I've been thinking that the geometry is so different on the two instruments that maybe I should just sell the kessel and concentrate on one archtop. I can't sell my GB10 because it was a gift...

Now if I could have the same chops too would be great.

What is that thing I often write? Something like all a jazz guitarist needs is a good Gibson ES-175.

But variety is the spice of life. Being true to one guitar means being untrue to all the rest. My newly acquired Campellone is getting a lot of attention at the moment. I wonder if my 175's are getting jealous?

    This sounds great too.
But don’t give up on the Barney. They compliment each other. Not compete.
Outstanding playing. I could hear this playing taking place in a quiet bar restaurant down in the Keys. Out on the patio. During sunset. Right before they bring out the Red Snapper. You and Sandra. Beautiful!

Nice sound and playing. Tone is kind of like Jim Hall and Pat Metheny’s love child.

Your neck must be as good as new!

Neck is doing great. About 3 weeks ago, the doctor cleared me for all physical activity and told me I might be the fastest recovering patient he's ever seen come back from this surgery. I have no limitations in terms of weight or other activity. He told me to use common sense in terms of not straining a neck muscle though. He apparently didn't realize that common sense isn't my strong suit.

    True dat

I would only add that for those who can't get or afford it, an Epiphone ES-175 with Classic 57s (the Premium) gets you very close.
