Hi,
I own a Gibson L5 wes and play it with dunlop pickup (2mm delrin or gator grip)...I love this guitar but I ve got some metallic vibration/noise on some notes. I first think of something vibrate on guitar but same things append with my L4 (or a Les paul) at a lower level.
I don't ear this on amp, just on acoustic. But when I play low volume I ear it.
If I play with thumb, the vibration is very low.
I replace the ABR-1 with a wood bridge. It works perfect but I lost the L5 sound.
I 'm thinking of replace the ABR-1 with a faber with nylon saddle.
Any advice?

Does the bridge have the retaining wire? They always seem to need some finagling/adjusting/to be removed on my guitars to avoid weird noises.

Try the Faber just because it is a way better bridge

no it doesn't have the wire

I have a nylon saddle replacement, I believe a TonePros. Wes used nylon saddles on his L5s from the 60's (I scrutinized his videos and many photos). Sounds better than that ringing metallic sounding stock saddle, and a wooden one I tried sounded dead.

Tom, I'm w you, though I do like ebony saddles. If I had to guess Wes used nylon because that's what Gibson was using during that period.

Thanks John

Fixed it for you:

I carved a new ebony bridge for my Super 400ces and now I gained a real jazz sound. The difference is not like day and night but more like smooth and mellow vs thinner and somwhat like you found the tone control and now get more sound.

Speaking of which, one of the best ways to ruin the sound of a good archtop is to have way too much extension of the bridge over the bridge base, with lots of exposed threaded rod. One very easy way to fix this is to add wood to the underside of a wood saddle. Here's another way. I may need to do a bit of sanding...
