Secret Love, guitar duo, Ibanez GB-10 (benson), helix Stomp

This continues my recent trend of doing guitar duo recordings with myself. This time on the Ibanez GB-10 I got from my life-long friend, Jim Roberts.

And so, i dedicate this song to Jim as well as all the other true friends of mine. It's not really "secret" love but it's true, friendship love for people who are there for you and who support you.

Secret in regards to not publicly professing your love of your friends.

I've been playing this tune for over 40 years. Not sure I did it 40 years worth of justice here but it's fun to play it in the context of a recording that is captured for posterity.

For the tech geeks, I recently had Bill Jancar replace the neck pickup with 6.4k, Gibson Mini humbucker which uses alnico 5 magnets instead of the 13.5k ceramic magnet that is stock.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I like this pickup better or not. It's definitely sweeter and more mellow. But perhaps due to the 500k/.02 pot/capacitor combination, I cannot get the methenyesque tone that I was able to get out of the original pickup. OTOH, the original pickup sounded very brash to me unless the tone control was turned way down.

The duo idea is a good one. I I want to play off of Secreted Love using Ralph Patt's Backing Tracks, I've gotta do it at 340bpm, and I can only cut that after a full practice session. I recently discovered you can right click on them and change the tempo on them.
What do you think of Ralph Patt's backing tracks?

There’s really nothing “not to love” about that Jack.
A lot of folks around here swear by having both pickups. Kinda like salt and pepper on the sound.
    Great stuff buddy.

I don't have them. Where can I find them?

They're absolutely metronomic throughout each track, and use what he called 'vanilla changes'-nothing beyond seventh chords. When you play a note that's not in the chords, you know it. But when you play with real musicians, you feel set free. If you can hang with Cherokee and Secret Love, you can hang with anyone- real musicians never play like this. Tuesday night I was 'boining' when playing with my dudes, after practicing with these:

Are you using flatwounds as well Jack Z? Tone is really pleasing to my ear. My take is you channel Pat Martino’s tone but not quite as dark. Glad to see you back in the Swing of things, Lol!

Thanks, yes i'm using labella flats on that. I'm still using TI flats on my 175 and Kessel. I do like the labellas a lot. They are not quite as loose feeling as the TI's but have a similar vibe. A lot nicer sounding than the chromes IMO.
