Healing and Rebirth - Gibson Barney Kessel, mental health awareness

This is an original composition of mine. Influenced by recent spinal surgery and struggles with mental health.

As I've said in the past, I'm open about this struggle as we should not be embarrassed and instead, should seek out the help of loved ones - family, friends, mental health professionals, etc.

Please don't struggle alone with bad thoughts. Don't feel like you need to be an isolated victim of your environment. Be proactive, be with people. Be an artist and perfect your craft but keep in mind that it's about communicating with people.

As with an earlier clip I posted while in this state, I don't see the joy in my face that I feel internally. The joy is still beneath the surface. I'm feeling a little better today than when I posted the last clip but it's still apparently (to me) that it is not showing up publicly yet. (of course, the tune is pretty hard too, lol)

This song is influenced by Pat Metheny, Ron Miller, Ritchie Bierach, Marc Copeland, Herbie Hancock.

I just wanted to say that I appreciate all of you and your kind words and performance comments.

    Much love and respect...

    -Jaz

The good Lord and prayer can help too. And of course his instruction manual, especially the book of Psalms and Proverbs.

I will be praying for you Jack.

When I am in a dark place I try and remember that their is someone out there that has it far worse then me.

Darkness will always turn to light. Life truly is a roller coaster ride.
You can’t have true joy in life without tasting some despair also.

On a side note - some of us get depressed listening to you play guitar knowing we will never be that good.

Jack count your blessings - one being having monster chops.

Extremely likable! Not hurried, not nervous, not overly complex. The sound is superb, and the divisive guitar has never looked better.

Jack, that guitar has never sounded better! Be well Jack, one day, one moment, at a time.

Jack, you always play so well, but I really like this more introspective and explorative style. I like story telling in a solo.

You sound more patient and introspective these days… pain offers the chance to develop wisdom and charity. I don’t go looking for it, but am glad to have met many challenges reasonably well thus far. Others, still works in progress.

I sometimes have to take a breath and remind myself that many members of this forum are often dealing with fear or pain, which can manifest through rudeness, arrogance, hubris, or just annoying, attention seeking language and behavior. We all want to know that we matter, somehow.

It’s a kindness to offer that confirmation when we can, and to remain non-reactive when we are pushed too hard. I appreciate that quality when I see it expressed through some of our more refined and gracious members. There are lots of admirable folk present here, doing other, more important work in life than just chatting about guitars. They bring their grace and wisdom along with them… lovely to see.

From what I can tell, you do have a lot to be grateful for and are right where you are supposed to be. Play the long game!
