I got into some weird harmony on that Monk arrangement. Had some unique teachers at that time.
I was thinking this week about how much I regret selling that L7 (the advanced one). What a great guitar.Last edited by omphalopsychos; 06-22-2023 at 01:28 PM.

Well, for sure you've had good teachers, and they've all had a good student in you !
And here's a '34 vs '37 question - -was the '37 neck easier to play ?
Curious and thx.

Yeah. I was in a honeymoon with the 34 when I made the video and I appreciate some things about it more than I would today if I still had both. The 34 was really nice because it was responsive to a light touch, had lots of sustain, etc. It had some nice flat top qualities. But the 37 had such a wonderful midrange and low end. Very rich tone. The 34 had a chunky v neck and small frets, which eventually I grew tired of. The 37 had a wonderful neck and had been refretted with taller frets.
Too bad I didn't have this yet by the time i sold those. Would have loved to compare.

Yeah I'd liked to have seen that comparison too.

Yeah I miss mine too.... : )

Thanks for the post. Great playing and interesting comparison. I'm partial to the '37 L7 also. I have a '44 that has that incredible sound. I also couldn't stand those skinny little frets and had replaced them. It's a spectacular guitar and I'm very attached to it. It showed that kind of play wear and sound that could only come from a guitar that draws you into it's grasp and doesn't want to be put down. Definitely a sound I love to hear.

Did your '30's L-7 have top sink, or top deflection ? I had a pre-purchase inspection done on mine, ( 2000 ? ) and yes it had settled about a half inch, but the braces were still attached and hadn't separated. The top has remained that way. It came with a replacement bridge that had been made that 1/2 inch taller to compensate for the amount of deflection.

Sounds like yours genuinely sagged since the bridge was replaced. Mine had the original bridge but I replaced it anyway because it was sucking tone.Last edited by omphalopsychos; 06-23-2023 at 01:51 PM.
