This Westville is pretty close to my idea of perfect ... and the sound is remarkable.

Sounds like flat wounds to my ear on that guitar. Along with the shorter scale length and finger picking, has that traditional ES-175 tone.
For me I’ve found my Benedetto Bambino is the answer for that type of tone. Similar type of smaller hollow laminate Archtop. I also found switching the pickups to less hotter Manluis PAF’s helped make the tone less muddy as well.

I love Hristo's music and his playing. Hearing him playing a solo standard is really just one more testament to how deep his talent runs. It's musically very far from what he usually plays and yet he obviously does it so well. Thanks for posting this.
