    Hi,
I stumbled across these on Reverb - the Ibanez 2358 and 2374. Both are semi-hollow rosewood bodies with bolt-on necks.
I can't find much information or reviews about them - just a couple of youtube videos with people playing, but no comments on the guitars.
Is anyone familiar with these guitars? I'm wondering if the tone will be similar to mahogany and if the pickups are good or if I should expect to replace them.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Ibanez didn't really put massive effort into upping their 'quality' game until about '78, and those guitars are likely 50 years old. While I am a huge Ibanez fan boy, I would pass on those unless you are looking at them from a collector's POV. You'd be better off with something like this, IMHO Ibanez Artist AS100 Antique Violin 1979 MIJ vintage 1979 - | Reverb

You have to be a little careful with the pre 77 stuff. The Japanese manufacturers at the time did all sort of slightly odd work arounds and short cuts.

It also depends what they had top copy; mostly Norlin era Gibsons, which in their own right weren't the best examples.

For example a lot of Japanese Les Pauls of the time had pancake bodies and were slightly chambered. They also used a lot of birch instead of poplar but is there a difference in the sound?

They do tend to sound thin.
