I went to their website some time ago and they had a statement on there that they were having difficulties obtaining the materials to make the cases and shut down production for the time being. I just checked again and that statement is no longer there. And they had pulled their North American dealer network. Hopefully we will see them for sale again in the states and elsewhere very soon.

That’s very useful information, John. Thanks! I wonder if Cedar Creek and whoever made my case sourced the foam from the same supplier. The foam in my case is stiff all the way through. But as you say there isn’t much to lose by trying it out. Once you massaged the foam in the cases did it remain pliable or is this something you have to do from time to time? I will definitely try it and report back.

Cedar Creek cases were/are the American division of TKL as I understand it and yes the cases are still fine after many years now. These are the alligator cover cases with a dark green velvet lining but I am sure they made other styles.
    Thanks John

John, I had my music space pulled apart for a deep cleaning and was just now able to get to the X-700 case to check it out. The case has an alligator embossed cover and the velvet lining is purple so very close to your description. And, I was able to massage the stiffness out of the foam to the extent that I can still use the case. Further massaging will help. My guess is that it is a Cedar Creek case just like yours. Hard to tell because it doesn't have a label identifying the make. It also has a nice, soft leather handle and substantial brass colored hardware.

Is there a tag on the case pocket? If so, is there anything printed on the tag? The Guild-badged cases that I have seen were built by Boblen in Montreal.

That is great news. Neither of my cases are marked but both are heaver than the guitars. One is for a Gibson Johnny A and the other I bought used, most likely because of the stiff foam. I guess massaging the case is no worse than sniffing the F hole! Ah that old guitar smell.
    thanks John

I did look inside the case pocket and there wasn't a tag or anything else indicating the manufacturer.

Here are photos of the case opened and unopened:

That's a Cedar Creek case. AFAIK, Boblen does not make cases with the "thermometer bulge" head.

Thanks, Hammertone! From what powerwagonjohn said as well it does seem to be a Cedar Creek case. In spite of the stiff foam lining inside, it's a very nice case.
