Anyone have one? I’m interested in your thoughts. I saw a guy playing a ‘67 with one Dearmond pickup. Sounded fantastic. I’ve read that they also came with Frantz pickups and were made in both a Gibson scale and a 3/4 scale. Any information is appreciated.

I have a full scale model and have owned a short scale in the past. Both with the Fransch pickups; the ones with DeArmonds (a metal covered single coil with no visible magnets or polepieces) are not too common and were from the late 50s if I remember correctly.
They are more feedback resistant than you might think, because of the body size I guess. I like the necks but they can be narrow. My current one is 1 11/16" at the nut. The pickups are bright and they definitely sound like hollow body instruments. It could probably be nudged in a different direction if you put a metal bridge on. I think the feather weight is a plus.

Yes, you’re right that the M-65 “Freshman” was available as both Gibson scale ans short-scale, and with several pickups. Besides several threads you could search for here on the forum, you might try posting on the dedicated Guild forum Lets Talk Guild; I’m sure you’ll get some personal responses there.

Thanks!
