Hi all....I'm new here and looking for a bit of help. I am about to restore an old German jazz guitar. I think it may be from around the 1940s. It has a pickup on it with the word "ideal" on it. It isn't wired into the guitar and there are no volume/tone knobs. It seems to have to be connected externally as there is no jack socket. Does anyone have any advice on how to get this pickup working?
Any help would be very much appreciated

The Ideal pickups which I know have a socket for a small jack on the upper side of the pickup, i.e. on the low e-string side. The cable will be lead over the upper rim of the guitar.
You can see it here in the picture below. I dunno know who this guy is, but he plays a nice Isana with an Ideal pickup.
Below a detail. Does it match with your pickup?

Thanks blue note.Yes that is exactly like my pickup. I assume I have to have some kind of adaptor to take it to a traditional jack plug?

Yes, but I do not know where to get the plug for that type of socket. As far as I remember, the thicker part of the socket is the ground and shielding and the tip is the live wire.
Perhaps you can tweak a female jack to fit to the size of the socket.

Thanks bluenote great advice

If You have a multimeter You can check if the thicker part is grounded to the cover of the pickup. Apparently so, but it is easy to check.
