I would like more cab sim's that is in the Superblock.

Does anyone know if I can put a Mooer Radar speaker cab simulator in front, or in effects loop and bypass the Quilter cab sim? And using the FRFR setting?

I realize this is an old thread but I made a video four years ago of a single lick through all three models. I think the differences are subtle but audible.

The cab sims are only active through the XLR DI, never through speakers. One of the voicings is always active, however, and I don't know of a way to disable them. You can certainly put whatever you like in front of, or in the effects loop, of the amp, just like any other amp. To me, the voicings sound very different, and I only use the 57 voicing. I don't like the scooped sound of the others.

I live in a condo with thin walls, so I use the headphone output. That does use cab sim. I am trying different headphones to get a better experience.

Ah, yes, headphones make a difference. Using them, I would select the FRFR sim. As for voicing, use whichever sounds best to you. I like my mids, but I'm not everyone.

I can't say how the proposed pedal will sound. I've tried a few pedals in front of the SBUS, as well as in the effects loop, and so far have always gone back to guitar straight into the amp. I don't use headphones because I don't have to. Perhaps I should, but it's more trouble than I want to go to.

I switched from my Sony Professional headphones to my Focal open backed headphones I use for my stereo. It sounds better. I have my tremolo/reverb and delay pedals in the effects loop. I need to try them in front of the amp.

I thought Id add to this thread after owning a SUBUS for a while.

There are a lot of things said about the 57 and 62 settings. I typically play the 62 setting as 57 just adds more color and gain than what Im looking for. Ive have fiddled a bit with the sad and neglected 61 setting and I always felt that it had potential. Finally, today I sat down and twisted the dials quite a bit.

If you are after the dark Wes style sound, the super fat humbucker tone for single line solos you can probably continue to ignore the 61 setting.

However, Im not after that sound. Im playing a 810ce with tapped single coil armstrong pickup and Thomastik Bebops. I really like the sound of roundwounds and I dont want it burried in a ton of color where it vanishes.

As others have noted, this setting really loves to be bright and with the wrong eq it can sound thin. On the 57 and 62 settings I can normally have the trebel setting around 10-11 oclock. The 61 I have to dial it back to around 2. What Ive found is with patience you can get a great tone where its fat, textured and the lower strings still have a nice weight to the tone. It might be my favorite setting...at least for chord melodies where I want a lot of definition. The complexity of the archtop with the round/halfwound strings really comes out and is lively but weighty and not harsh. I really think this setting is worth exploring if these kind of tones and colors are of interest.

Having seen how much effort Pat Quilter had put into these amp emulation, I would not be surprised if the different voicings have different breakup/headroom characteristics as per their emulated amps DNA.

when played clean through my archtop, the different voicings as suggested sound more like the respective base amp EQs- a tweed, a blonde and a blackpanel fender.

I recently added a longer cord to my SBUS so that it reaches the little table in front of where I practice. It makes it easy to have fun dial twisting. Ive continued my exploration of the 61 channel that is often skipped over by owners. Its really an awesome little channel once you spend time dialing it in. Ive found that if you really incorperate the gain and limiter features you can get a fat heavy brightish tone from that little unit. Yes, all of those things can go together.

Its amazing the nice little tubish squish you can achieve. More importantly you can get it at low volumes where tubes would still be half asleep and in need of juice.

The SB might just be the ideal home practice tool
