I really like, that the new Broadways seem to have the "Gibson-style F-Holes" again.
It's also worth noting, that apparently they now even offer a left-handed model.

I wonder if the reintroduction of the Broadway has something to do with the abandonment of Gibson archtops.

It’s solid pressed plywood with the topmost layer being select spruce.

Very good news, provided the overall quality and electronics are OK. The MIK Epis around Y2K have proven to be excellent builds. The choice of colors - red or black - is interesting, as earlier versions were Natural and Sunburst AFAIK. Too bad fidelity to the originals has kept the less than desirable Frequensator tailpiece on board.

Just picked up an Epiphone Broadway. I put TI Swing 12's on it and had a pretty hard time getting the G string through the tailpiece, the hole is too narrow. Anyone have that problem?

If i replace the frequensator with a generic tailpiece from StewMac etc. will it fit the same hole pattern?

In case you never figured this out. The ballend grabber part of the tailpiece has different sizes, make sure the two of them aren't flipped around.

Interesting, since natural isn't even shown AS an available finish on Epiphone's website.

Yeah it's weird. Maybe Sweetwater did a partnership to get an exclusive finish... but why it's less expensive is beyond me.

Carving wastes a LOT of wood, when you're turning out larger quantities of tops. Thin veneers are cheap and easy to get from logs, and gluing them up isn't difficult or expensive. Laminated tops are durable, don't crack, and resist feedback better than carved. Not many guitar players are playing purely acoustically these days, so carved tops aren't really necessary, and can be liabilities if they split in use. I like carved tops, and have several guitars with them, but I'm not really in the mainstream of the market.

I think in many ways, the best current approximation. Broadways are very cool guitars.

I love the Broadways. A very good basic body, a competent neck, a little slim (I like that okay), good tuners etc. It's a perfect candidate for a wiring harness replacement if you aren't happy with the standard one. I put StewMac PAF copies on mine and really love the results. I have a Gibson L5ces, Gibson ES175, Gibson ES165, and an Aria Pro II PE180... but the Broadway ends up in my hands way more than you'd expect with that competition.

The new ones at Sweetwater look nice. They are 24.75 scale vs 25.5 on the vintage natural. Different fretboard wood too.

The scale length change is significant, especially in comping role. As well, it's less of a poor man's L5 now.

Sweetwater is a great company, but I have found that Chinese made guitars are sometimes advertised with incorrect specs. I would caution any would be buyer to confirm that the older Blonde models are 25.5 scale vs. the new sunburst being 24.75. Talk to a Sweetwater rep and have someone at their warehouse actually measure before buying if the difference is important to you.
