It’s so satisfying when things come together just like you hoped they would. When Mark Campellone was building my Standard last summer we had a lot of discussions about the finish. I struggled in deciding between the Dark Cherry Burst and the Vintage Burst. I told Mark that what I was looking for was the color of an old L5 where the finish has faded a bit and the dark brown pigment has faded out to red. I sent Mark some pictures as examples. Ultimately, Mark thought that Dark Cherry Burst would be the closest match and that he could do the color match in the spraying process. He nailed it!

Yesterday, I saw this L5 that had belonged to Les Paul at an exhibit in Milwaukee. It’s exactly what I was talking about, and while the camera and the differences in lighting doesn’t do this comparison justice, in-hand my Campellone comes remarkably close.

That is indeed a perfect looking burst. Mark does beautiful finishes. Mine is a gorgeous blonde, maybe I need a burst next!

    Both of them are beautiful!

(Here is my usual PSA about posting photos from an iDevice—make sure the photo has been edited and saved, so the desired orientation will be uploaded. Otherwise the photo will be posted with the top of the camera as the default “up”.)

That CC Pup looks really sweet too. Just another beautiful work of art by Mark Campellone. I'm on his wait list but needed to take a pass on the last 2 builds Still planning to have Mark build one. Seeing that CC Pup just adds to one more thing I'll need the think about

So that’s the trick. Very helpful. Thanks.

I love the sound of this PU, but it took a little time to dial in the sound I was after. I suppose that’s not unusual. Anyway, it’s a Vintage Vibe floating CC and I recommend it.
