Hi. Quick question for anyone using these with their archtops while cased. How do you configure the packets: one by the head stock and the other where? The sleeves seem geared for a typical flat top with a large sound hole and not f-holes.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I use the Boveda as recommended in their materials: one under the head, and the other laying on top of the body/strings. No problem with fitting in the HSC.

I don't have room in the case to fit one by the headstock, so I use the sleeve that takes 2 packs, and drape it like saddlebags over the neck where it meets the body. So far, so good.

After years of using these, I just had a second pack spring a leak and dampen the outer sleeve. You don’t want a wet pack in contact with any part of the guitar, so this is a potential problem for those of us who rehumidify dry packs for reuse. Even a tiny spot of wetness (a slightly darker patch) in the brown “paper” pack is reason to disgard it.

With multiple guitars, the cost of using only fresh ones is pretty high. Putting a few dry packs in a large closed Tupperware container with an open container of water will have them fully hydrated within 10 to 14 days. I do this 3 or 4 times before replacing one. But even the slight curling and bending from handling them seems to cause tiny areas of damage to the sealing elements over time. And if you spill a little water on the outside, wipe it off immediately and leave that pack out in the open to make sure it dries. If the wetness was from a leak, it won’t dry up and you should toss it.

I use industrial Velcro to hold a pack under the headstock on the bottom of the gig bags and cases I keep upright in my gear closet. And I slip one into the bass side f-hole - the same rod and clip that hold it between strings in a flattop keep it from falling in (most of the time). It’s easy to fish it out with your fingers if it does manage to get inside. I probably should make up a ribbon or other suspension piece, but I haven’t had any problems doing it this way for many years.

So you just lay the sleeve atop the strings (say between neck and bridge) versus inserting into an f-hole?

Thanks all for the responses. About to have the second winter in this place — a typical very old, very drafty New England house. I was running multiple humidifiers in my small office room last year just to maintain 40%. I want a little backup this year in case one runs dry before I can refill it.

I started using the Boveda packs last winter. I put them underneath the headstock and underneath the neck/body joint in the larger section of
the guitar case. I initially put them on top of the guitar, but since I stand my cases in a closet, the packs kept falling down to the tailpiece. I also bought some Govee bluetooth hygrometers that I place in the case pocket which allows me to track the humidity level of my guitars via the Govee app on my phone.
