After a recent order of these picks: Amazon.com I was totally upset with Dunlop's "upgrade."
I had been using these picks for years to preserve the life of the Wegen picks I own. They used to feel and play surprisingly close to Wegen picks. When I recently purchased another bag of them, I was really upset that Dunlop has changed the material and the design. They used to be very close to Wegen picks in feel and design. Looks like Dunlop has decided to take shortcuts and the newest design is very disappointing.
The nice finishing of the angles of the attack portion of the picks has been replaced with what appears to be a quick filing or sanding of a very shallow angle. The glossy plastic is now a dull material; possibly nylon. They used to be so good for Gypsy jazz guitar and I used them for all my other guitars as well, but now they make my guitar sound dull and lifeless.
I guess I am going to have to carefully guard my older picks and go back to my Wegens.

can you fix it with sandpaper or a file?

Maybe, but should I really have to? Even the feel is different because the indentation for the thumb is shallower. They should have let it alone.

Why worry about your Wegens? I have a bunch, they don't seem to wear and they are readily available and not that expensive.

If the material has changed, then no, he can not fix the material with sandpaper or a file.

i've found the same true with dunlop and d'andrea picks unfortunately. Dunlop owns herco and the new herco thumbpicks are horrible. Warped and unfinished edges. The last round of d'andrea fingerpicks was also warped beyond usage...

I noticed this on my Dunlop ultex picks about 10 years ago. They changed the label on the picks and somehow it changed the sound (not as good). Have not bought any in a while but it sounds like they have done it again.

The earlier bags used to have the part number 508. Now they are 477-508. Probably "new and improved" which improved refers to their bottom line instead of the quality of their product.
