So this area is flooded with venues and live music.Really good musicians.90+% acoustic folk /country/pop.So i was at a local music store a mom and pop shop and was talking to one of the locals.A teacher of several instruments and a member of the circle of organizers and players of events in the area. After chatting for a while he mentioned that they try not to step on the toes of the players who do this for a living. After i mentioned going beyond the open mic and getting a few pay gigs out of necessity. He said maybe a fill insituation at first. He was very encouraging to get me involved. Then i played an iphone recording ' lady is a tramp' and squeezed in a reference to 'a train' he stopped the recording and asked what was i playing its an archtop.'Oh and what amp is that i mean you voice and the tone of the guitar thats really nice. This can work'.He never heard of polytone but he kept asking about 'That Amp.haha I guess i will stop shopping for a new rig.The owner of the store also is a luthier and an amp tech.So i think i am in good hands.

There's a reason that the classic tones come through the classic equipment.

what was encouraging at least in the smaller venues that have mostly solo/duo + like it.I got what kind of guitar are you playin? What amp nice tone.Like its if nothing less refreshing. We'll see how things go.I am just now seriously introducing myself to the circuit.

I had a MBII and MegaBrute that I tried for a while, just could not get on with them. Must be me.

Herb Ellis once told me that he'd use a Twin Reverb for all gigs if they weren't so bulky. Instead, he used a Polytone MiniBrute II for most gigs (mid-80s). He claimed that the Polytone got the same sound and was easy to lug around.
At the time, I owned both--a vintage Twin Reverb and a MB II. I liked them both, but wouldn't haul the TR around for love nor money.
I can get a good jazz tone from many different amps, these days. Still, I lean on one of my Polytones for much of my work. An archtop into a MB II is tough to complain about. And, if the Polytone is still working, at this point, my experience has been that it will continue to perform.

i haven't had my polytone IV out of the basement in years i took it out side and its like the more open the room or outside the better it sounds!!I mean for what i was wanting.
