I put four tiny felt pads under the pickup as a precaution, but they do not touch the top.

Best of all it plays and sounds amazing!

Every time I see that guitar I think “it’s got to be some of the old guards finest ever work!”

    True!

I've played Guilds, Gibsons, Gretsches, Heritages and more. It was never the guitar holding me back.

I’m sorry, but that burst is like melted butter on a rare rib steak seasoned with Thyme and Tarragon!

Hi, may I ask which exact KA have you got installed there? I found a couple of 12-pole PU's on their web site but not sure which and if they will fit a Heritage GE the way it is originally installed (with the pickup edge overlapping the pickguard). Thanks in advance!

The remaining lengths of the pins go through holes in the end of pickup cover and are glued in place inside the cover on each side of the small humbucker. The pickup lead is routed through a hole in the center of the maple block and over to the volume pot. Once the end of the lead is unsoldered from the pot, the floating pickup can be disconnected from the pickguard by simply pulling it off - no glue or screws, just the two snugly fit brass pins.
I had a blonde GE of that very vintage and was always impressed at this method of mounting the pickup. I had the standard "spike" pickguard replaced with a rounded one like they use on the Johnny Smith models, and had them mount a #3 (I think) and a tone knob on it. The plug-in design made it very simple to swap out the pickguards. I loved that guitar, had my name engraved on the truss rod cover, but had to sell it in a time of financial pressure. I always regretted that and have wondered where my GE ended up. It really "spoke" to me. I hope you love yours!
