Thanks! Now to hijack my own thread, here's some genius playing from a great era:

I am surprised how shallow the neck is in the pics—never realized it despite owning 2 5th Avenues—but it is a very comfortable neck.

If you’re OK with Korean Epiphone necks (every one of which I’ve played has been similar) or modern 175 necks you should be OK with this. I find the ergonomics of this guitar especially the weight to be outstanding.

Re’ Dexter, he spoke at my university (Emory) back in the early 80’s. We all expected him to bring his sax and play something, but he spoke in a rather disorganized fashion for 45 minutes or so.

The auditorium where he spoke was only half full, and when they realized there was no playin’ some of the audience walked out, and I got the impression Dexter was not too thrilled to be there. Not to mention the audience was about 95% young white men.

Unfortunately I never got to see him play in his lifetime.

I could have sworn I saw the guitar player in the orchestra that backed Tony Bennet and Lady Ga Ga in Tony's 90th birthday celebration, playing a Godin Kingpin (?) with 2 humbuckers. He had the treble dialed way back but it still sounded really good. The guitarist was a great player and got to take several lead breaks.

    Congrats! Great guitars, for sure.

Regarding the position dots on the side: a little dot of white nailpolish creates nice position markers ;-)

(Or black nailpolish if you have white bindings)

That's Gray Sargent. I'm not sure about that show, but I've seen him playing a 2 pickup P90 cutaway Godin Kingpin backing Tony Bennett in another video with a small combo.
Pretty good endorsement of the quality of the guitar build!

Thanks, and thanks for the tip about the position marker! I was racking my brain to think of what I could do. I was thinking maybe a dot from a white grease pencil? I may try your suggestion, we'll see. If it keeps bugging me or causing mistakes I will have to address it.

Or you can do what Philipe Catherine did on his Godin:

The fingerboard radius is a bit unusual as well, at 16", practically flat! Many jazz guitars use 12". I believe some old acoustic Gibsons used 16"? .. probably where the choice comes from.

Martin flattop acoustics have a 16" radius, too!

I imagine Godin, the king of efficiency, might use a 16 inch radius on all of their necks? (Save for the nylon string guitars)

So here's a sound sample of Gordon the Godin in action.

Please excuse the sloppy playing, but that's how I play. sigh....

Martin Retro Monel roundwound strings, plugged into a Yamaha THR5. (Crunch channel with gain dialed back, and the smallest amount of reverb possible.)

BIAB backing track playing on my computer speakers.

Recorded on my IPhone through the air.
