I'm looking for a round wound string set for my super 400 with a high string at 11 and a wound third string. Basically I'm looking to get the super 400 to play with approximately the same tension as my es 175. My es 175 is diadario 12 to 52 round wound and the tension is fine. That same tension on the super 400 is too stiff. Thanks in advance

Flat wound? Round? Other?
The TIs are a bit thinner than standard brands like D’A, because they use a slightly different conversion factor from mm to inches and an older European measuring standard. So their “13” would be labeled a 12.6 from most other makers. This is one of the reasons they feel less tense than most other strings labeled the same size. Their round cores are similarly smaller, and the alloys they use for cores and unwound strings seem a bit less stiff to me than the steels in D’As.
I use flatwounds, with JS113s on both my 17” archtop with a 25+” scale and my 16” with a 24 3/4” scale. I find the feel to be perfect (as is the sound). I was using 112s on the 16”, but I put on the 13s a few weeks ago and they sound a bit richer with little change in feel.

I just can approve the last sentence too.

Last year I have switched to js112 with a 0.13 and a 0.17 on top. A bit fatter on the plinky side, and not much difference in feel

I don't recall seeing any .011 roundwound sets with a wound G. They all seem to be plain. But I haven't done an exhaustive search. If I needed such a set, I would use Teh Google.

John Pearse "archtop" strings come in .011 gauge, with a wound G.
They're pure nickel wound, with round cores. I mostly use flats, but these are probably the best roundwounds I've found.

I’ve been experimenting with various 11-50 and 12-53,4 sets on my Benedetto Bambino. So far the Cheap Dunlop 11-50 Heavy Core seem to be working for the in between Med and Lighter Heavy Jazz Roundwounds.
But I bought a bunch GHS,Rotosoumd, La Bella, SIT, D’Addario,Ernie Ball and Curt Mangan. Good prices and they have free shipping over $35 plus a discount code as well!

I like SIT strings, 11-50s work well on both my archtops and solidbodies.

The EXL 115 w d'addarios seem about right to me. If I can't get it playing a little more relaxed I will try these. I don't particularly care for flat wounds so I think this is what I was looking for. I would use the thomastic Bebop 12 to 50 if it had a wound third cuz I really like those. Maybe I can get a single wound third. Expensive though LOL

I just found out that Elixir 12-52 nanowebs have a wound third. I love the feel of the coated strings, so I think I found my favourite.

You can use a site like Stringjoy Guitar String Tension Calculator to calculate the exact string tensions you have on your ES175 by entering its scale length and the string type and gauges you use. Then enter the scale length of the other guitar, pick the kind of string you like to use, and play with the string gauges until you get the nearest tensions. I'd go for the nearest higher tension as they will feel loser on an archtop, and the S400 is a big guitar where the strings need to drive a lot of wood.

Try the TI Benson 12s.
